This week's blog comes from Alice Mapplebeck, writer of 'A Sporting Affair'.
What started out as an A4 envelope containing small items last October, later turned
into a setting within the breath taking views of the Lake District. I am talking about
my new play ‘A Sporting Affair’.
Since, the director Rochelle Reynolds I were paired up, we discussed ways of how to
make the dialogue flow more smoothly. This was a great help and I learnt so much of
how to get relevant information across, without making it sound too wordy. I am still
in the early stages of a playwriting career and all the advice I’m receiving from more
experienced practitioners has helped me to develop my craft.
Last weekend, Rochelle and I conducted auditions at the University of York and
Pitcher & Piano. After meeting several actors all oozing with talent, the following
have now been cast
Martha - Elizabeth Cooke
Jacob - Thomas Cocker
Charlotte - Serena Bury
I am pleased with Rochelle’s choices and know they are all going to make an
excellent team. Four drafts later, the final script is now complete and distributed
amongst the company.
I am very excited by this troupe and looking forward to the next two months of the
rehearsal process. Watch this space…
